A Holistic Approach to Improve Your Golf Game

By: Robert Rogers

Like any other sport, physical fitness, practice and etiquette play an important role. This article will cover a more holistic view of playing golf and improving your game.

Golf Fitness:
- You'll never be a great golfer unless you keep you body and mind it shape. I know the truth hurts. But all the great players will devote a good portion of their schedule at the gym. Besides the obvious health benefits, you'll be able to enjoy the game long after you retire.

- Eat right. Stay away from high fat and sugar loaded foods. Don't have that doughnut and coffee in the morning. Have a glass of juice with some high fiber cereal. If you must have coffee, try to drink it black. The antioxidants and mild caffeine in coffee have been shown to be beneficial to your health. Avoid loading your coffee with creamers and sugar. Also avoid artificial sweeteners.

- Exercise regularly. Include a cardiovascular regimen to help you get around the course and it's great for your heart. Walking, jogging, biking, take your pick. Swimming is also a great way to improve your breathing and overall body fitness since it targets all your muscle groups. Add weight training to improve your power strokes.

- Exercise your mind. Crossword puzzles, reading golf magazines, and reading the newspaper with your black coffee are all excellent mental exercises. Mental fitness requires a daily regimen as well. Meditation, Tai Chi, spending time with family and friends all help reduce stress and will improve your game. Don't underestimate this important step.

Practice:
- You need to develop a practice routine that is consistent and regular. Just playing the game is not enough. Try out new techniques, new clubs or improve on existing techniques. Your brain will develop new pathways and muscle memory that will carry over into your game. A rule of thumb is to practice twice as much as you play.

- Take classes or sign up for a lesson or two with a more advanced player. You'll always learn something new and will level up your golf skills. Do this at least once per year. It takes dedication to become a better player and to improve year after year.

Etiquette
- Golf is a gentlemen's game. Become familiar with the rules of conduct and practice them in your head and on the course. Being a great player doesn't always mean having the lowest score. Being able to enjoy golf with other players, whether on your team or just on the course, is just as important as the game itself.

How To Have A 5 Simple & Proven Ways To Improve Your Golf On The Course

By: Eddy Kong

When you go out to play a game of golf you're hoping for a good round. Do you? I bet you would especially amateur golfers out there.

I know many golfers do, and I have some question for you:-

Question 1 : How often does your outcome match what you hoped for? Not as what you have expected for, right?

Question 2: Do you usually shoot the scores you had envisioned before you teeing off? Again not what you want, right?

Question 3: If not, do you ever study where and how you could have saved strokes and avoided those blow up holes, without losing very badly.

I've got 5 easy and proven tips for you to implement immediately that will shave 4-6 or even more strokes off your score the next time you play. Give them a try and see what happens, but now I am only to include the first two:-

Here they are:

1) First off you've got to put the proper fuel in your body before you leave home. I mean eat something not too heavy that gives you enough energy. Most golfers don't give it a second thought.

They either don't eat at all before they leave home or they eat something that is not going to give them the long-term energy they're hoping for.

So whether it's lunch or breakfast before you leave you need to consume a complex carbohydrate and a good protein source.

This combination will warrant the best use of your energy for the long haul.

An example for breakfast would be a bowl of oatmeal and a couple of eggs with a piece of fruit or a juice.

For lunch you could have a turkey sandwich on whole wheat with a piece of fruit. Lot's of lettuce on the sandwich and try to avoid mayonnaise or butter.

2) The second tip is to properly warm up your body before you even hit your first ball. I see so many golfers show up 5 minutes before tee time, hack a few balls and head to the first tee.

I mean doing some simple stretching exercise before injure your hamstring.

Those golfers are headed for a double bogey right off the bat - but hey they're just getting "warmed up" right?

A better approach is to give yourself at least 30 minutes before your tee time.

First do some dynamic (movement oriented) stretches to prepare your body to perform.

Things like arm circles, partial squats, toe touches, etc. Then take some half swings with a 7-pound iron club.

Now after that you're ready to hit some wedges. You'll find with this approach your hits on the range will be much better, which will build your confidence.

3) Drink lots of water even before you leave your house. Try to consume up to a gallon of water before you get to the course.

This will help you absorb and digest your pre-game meal and hydrate your muscles for optimal performance. This is important and should not be overlook, otherwise the consequences is adverse.

Don't take this lightly. Dehydration causes energy loss, lack of focus and concentration and fatigue later in the round.

And remember, that's before you even come to the course. Once you get there, you should be drinking water every hole. Don't forget about it.

4) Don't wait till you get tight to stretch on the course. You should be constantly moving your body and stretching your joints while you play.

I see and hear too many golfers complaining of tight lower backs or shoulders during the round.

What amazes me is that with all that complaining they do nothing about it. Why? Think of your body as a machine.

If the machine starts to break down - fix it. I mean stretch those areas while you're playing. You'll see a big difference in your swing mechanics late in the round.

5) Snack while you play. No I don't mean the full meal but having mini snacks bar that most people taking before heading for the gym.

When you supply your body with the proper nutrients your energy levels stay balanced and you will avoid those mental lapses late in the round.

How many times have you had a good score only to blow up late in the round? I'll bet more than a couple of times. I know I have. Treat your body like a Ferrari not a Ford Pinto. You only 1 body if you want to win.

I hope you enjoy this series. Stay tuned for more golf ideas and tips.

The reason for good extension in the follow through is to keep the clubface accelerating at impact! The reason that the slice is so common is that many players try to keep the clubface angle square to the target throught and after impact. This actually opens the face, resulting in a left to right spin to the ball (Slice).

Putting Tip
Wanna be a good putter? Here are some basic fundamentals you should be practicing.
--Get a putter with a very distinct line marked on it to indicate the target line and practice with a chalk line. You can get a chalk line at any hardware store for 5 or 6 bucks, and it's as valuable a training aid as there is anywhere. Find a putt on the practice green that is straight. Snap a chalk line down from about 5 or 6 feet to the middle of the cup. Make sure that the entire length of the line on your putter is exactly on the chalk line. Start making putts. This will train your eyes to "see square" precisely.
--Keep your the pressure in your hands soft and constant throughout the stroke. Sensitivity is obviously a huge part of putting. If your hands are tight on the grip you are diminishing your sensitivity - period. Also, if your grip pressure changes during the stroke, it's probably not "a stroke" but more likely a jab, flinch, spasm, push, hit ... well, you get the point -- good luck with that kind of technique.
--There is no independent action in the hands. Nothing could be more logical: If you do indeed have the putter face aligned precisely, as in the first point above, the last thing you'd want to do is to change the position of the face. Therefore, your hands should not be moving independently of your arms and shoulders. To see if your hands are moving, as a drill try watching your hands very carefully (instead of the ball) a few times. You'll see what your hands are doing quite easily.
There are many more (seemingly endless) details about putting, of course, but if you turn these fundamental concepts into habits it will take you a long way toward being a consistently good putter

Golf Equipment - Driving or Duffing

By Chris Campbell

Hold on, keep the wallet in your pants big boy. We've got some explaining to do first. Basic golf equipment of some kind is a must for anyone looking to take up this ancient game. Golf equipment like a good set of golf clubs, comfortable golf shoes, and a roomy but practical golf bag are essential to start your golfing adventure. But don't go overboard here. Your just learning the game after all, and while good golf equipment is essential, there's no point in blowing a whole wad before you really decide how much you like the game of golf and vice a versa. And as with many sports, the ultra high tech, high performance golf equipment won't really make a big difference to the beginner or for that matter average golfer. After a few years, once you've achieved brilliance on the course, and are beginning to pass the average to above average skill level, then it's time to consider the more advanced golf equipment.

Hitting The Clubs

Your clubs are probably the first piece of golf equipment to consider for an upgrade, once your on the verge of challenging Tiger for the crown. You could decide to replace the entire set of clubs, if money is no object, and your appetite for golf domination has no bounds. But there is another option to consider. There are probably many golf clubs in your bag, that havent seen the light of day, or the green of a course since the last time you paid for drinks on the nineteenth hole. So, maybe you should just consider gradually replacing the clubs you really use with new high performance clubs. The next few times you go golfing, dont just keep track of the strokes on each hole. Take an extra golf score card, and just track of the golf clubs you use for each hole. A little more work, but after a few weeks, you should have a pretty good idea of which golf clubs you use the most, and which are just coming along for the ride. You may want to make up your own little custom golf club score card just for this exercise.

These Shoes Were Made For Swinging

Comfort is of course a major consideration when choosing golf shoes. Youre going to be traipsing across eighteen fairways (or more), and you dont need to be doing that in blisters. A good grip and solid support are also important in picking out golf shoes. As with many sports, a good base (your feet) can make all the difference in the world. Proper foot positioning, and support, are essentially the beginnings of a great golf swing. The pros, or staff at a good golf equipment store can be helpful in choosing a pair of golf shoes that are appropriate for you. Dont be afraid to spend in this category, as it is practically impossible to blow the bank on a pair of shoes, and your feet will love you for it.

Golf Goes Bizzare

Alright, Im sure youve seen all the contraptions, and medieval like torture devices in the infomercials guarantying to take strokes off your golf game. Well, like I said in the first paragraph, put away the wallet big boy. Instead find your self a good golf pro instead. Im sure every golf course you frequent has a pro of a least dubious stature. Ask around a bit, and see if any of your other buddies had good success with a pro. Setup some regular lessons, and put in the practice time. Thats the best sure fire way to improve your game. And then, once your golf game has ascended stratospheric levels, maybe you can justify buying those ultra super fantastic new clubs youve been drooling over all season.

Personal club fitting should you get clubs to be made just for you or are "off the rack" ones OK? The answer depends on you. If you find clubs which seem to feel good and you can hit the ball well with them, then off the-shelf ones are fine. If nothing seems to work right for you, consider having your clubs personally sized and weighted at shops which specialize in tailoring clubs for the individual. But find out the details on their policy for club returns or replacement in case you have any problems.

Fix Your Golf Slice With Training Aids

By: Trent

There are dozens of golf traning aids that promise to fix your golf slice, but many dont help you accomplish this. How frustrating to get excited, buy a certain product in hopes it will help and it doesnt?

Since over 80% of all amateurs slice the golf ball, it is a popular sector in the golf product development area. Golf innovators are dying to come out with a new slice aid because they know it will sell.

The problem is...how do you know if it is a decent product or not?

If you're serious about it you've got to do some recon work! Talk to your teaching pro, your golfing buddies, and go down to your local pro shop to see if you can get your hands on one before you buy it!

In my opinion, the golf slice is an easy fix. Most of the aids out there should fix your golf slice. The cause of a slice is mostly an over-the-top, swiping accross the ball golf swing. That physical move is the culprit!

Even slightly changing your grip can be the fix!

With that being said, you've got to look for a training aid that gets you coming from the inside, to produce the opposite spin of a slice, and actually can help you it a draw. If you're a slicer, how cool would that be to starting hitting a draw?

There are several that come to mine, but you've got to go to my fix golf slice page to see which one I really like!

Another option in closing is to go to ebay. You can save a few bucks and get it in your hands in less than a couple of days. Ebay has a ton of golf training aids, and many that are aimed at fixing your golf slice.

Hints About Golf Drivers

Stick to your routine
More than anything you need to have your routine. Next time you watch Tiger or Ernie look at their routine. That's their way of feeling comfortable. I walk up to a shot and look where I want it to go. Next I take a practice swing. Then I cock my club back, once looking at the target, then two more times. It's then that I'm relaxed and ready to hit the shot.

The old adage has always been that the top of the driver should be about halfway up the ball when it is teed up. However, with a 460cc driver, I like to see you set the ball high enough on a peg such that the top of the driver is no more than one-third of the way up the ball. Of course, this means that the standard 2 1/8-inch tee will not be long enough to accommodate. You will need a tee at least 3 inches in length, but likely a little longer than this.

Getting The Most Out Of Golf Instructions

by Dan Farrell

Like any sports, golf entails some fundamental instructions on rules, method, customs, and equipment.

These golf instructions, aside from practices, are important in order to become an expert golfer. But even if you have no desire to become an expert golfer you can shave many strokes off your golf game with proper instruction.

Hence, in the United States, any golfer can gain the same knowledge that most professional golfers have obtained by enrolling in golf schools or training centers that are duly licensed by the U.S. Golf Teachers Federation or the Professional Golfers Association.

For those who would like to know more about golf instructions, here is a list of some facts that they can use in gaining more information about golf and golf instructions:

1. Golf Instructions started in the 'medieval era'. As early as the 1350s, golf instructions had already dominated the society. Back then, golfers were already incorporating the basic concept of golf instructions by letting each group of golfers to strike the next unbroken shot.

2. Expensive state of golf instructions Before the gutta percha ball was created, golf instructions were very costly then. It was even considered as a very expensive set of abilities wherein only a few people from Edinburgh could play the game.

3. 'Show-and-tell' type of golf instruction It was in 1848 when the 'show-and-tell' type of golf instructions was first introduced. It was also during this year that the 'guttie' ball was invented. Because of these, golf eventually became an affordable sport. It also became an easy export item wherein golf was gradually introduced to the rest of the world.

4. First golf instructional book It was in 1857 that the first golf instructional book was published. The book, entitled 'A Keen Hand', written by H.B. Farnie was all about golf instructions on techniques and strategies in playing golf.

5. The important part of golf instructions In golf instructions, the most essential things that a golfer must learn are alignment, proper posture, golf swing, and grip. These things are the primary concern of the golf instructions because these are vital to every golf players shot in the game.

6. Golf instructions and shots. Through golf instructions, every golfer wannabe is able to learn the different traditional shots like fairway shots, chipping, approaches, putting, sand-shots, and driving. For higher level of golf instructions, players are taught with methods that are more intricate like controlling the loft, trouble shots, and controlling the shape of the shot. Indeed, there are no better ways to learn golf than through golf instructions. Everythings already included and taught in golf instructions. Golf instuctors need to be patient, knowledgeable and most important, able to work with different personalities with different temperament and physical make up. If you arent happy with your instructor, fire him! Move on and make them work for you as golf is a game to be enjoyed.

Tips About Golf Putters

You cant fire a gun unless you pull the trigger, right? A similar concept also applies to the golf swing, which also usually requires a trigger move to get the body moving. Now, not everyone has a trigger, some manage to swing well from a static position to a dynamic position. But for the rest of us who often find confusion when it comes to where to start the golf swing, a trigger move can help you start swinging in a fluid and consistent manner.

Golf Tools, Gearing up nicely for Golfing

by Khaled Naser

Like all other sports, golf needs that you are geared up with the best equipments to properly play the game. This paper gives you an idea of the standard golf tools one requires to be able to learn and play golf properly.

For novice, the main golf tool is a golf ball. Golf balls are dimpled tiny balls, use in to play golf. They are dimpled to go far when driven by golf clubs.

Also another important golf tool is a golf club or golf driver. Golf drivers come in too many varieties. This is because a golf course has too many kinds of landscapes and different golf clubs are required to make the best drive. Depending on the landscape, if sand, grass or cement, a golf club is important to make the perfect drive. Expert golfers usually have a case or two of golf clubs to cater to their golf requirements. Most golf stores and sports tool store sell golf clubs. Some golf clubs are sold in sets while other are sold alone.

To take care of your golf equipment, such as your golf club, a golf bag golf club cover is important. A golf bag will, for sure, hold your golf club in one place and will make it more easy for your caddy to bring your many golf clubs. Golf bags can also hold golf balls and also other golf equipment such as water bottle to quench your thirst while under the beautiful sun or extra shirt or your regular shoes. On the other hand, a golf club cover covers the edge of your golf club. This is done so to protect your golf club from unwanted scratches and dents. Dents can cause your drive to go from good to bad. Dents in golf clubs can affect the drive of your golf ball. With these golf tools, you can take care of the state of your club and your rich sport.

One golf tool that you also need to invest on is a nice pair of golf shoes. Golf shoes are different from standard rubber shoes or jogging shoes. Golf shoes are made to walk on greens - the type where the sport is played. Golf shoes usually have pointed rubber under the soles to grip the earth and sand under your feet. This way, unnecessary shaking or moving is prevented. This is useful because shaking can cause you to not hit the golf ball or to hit the golf ball in the wrong way. If you plan to play good golf a nice pair of golf shoes is a important golf tool to add up to your list. Choose one that is sturdy yet comfortable enough for you to walk into. Golf is a sport that requires walking from one hole to the other or to where your ball goes (you can not use golf carts on the greens) and thus, if your golf shoes are no good, you would have a hard time playing your game.

A golf tool usually provided by most golf courses (aside from the golf ball) is the tee. The tee is the tiny pin like thing that you punch to the ground to stand your ball into. The tee is use in teeing off (the start of your first drive) thus the name.

The most great golf tool ever created (for me, that is) is the golf cart. Golf carts can take you from one hole to the other, though as I said earlier they are not allowed on the greens, they still lessen the burden of having to walk under the hot sun. This golf equipment can be acquired from golf courses. Golf players are normally made to use golf tool such as this to give them a good and easier time playing the game.

Many specialty shops and sport shops offer golf tools. The internet is also a great source of golf equipment. Used golf tools are even auctioned off the internet, if you are on a tight budget. Check out your golf shop, sports shop, specialty shops, E-bay or Yahoo! for your golf equipment requirements.

Hints On Golf Putting Aids

To develop the best possible grip for you. Every golfer swings and grips the club differently. Over 90 percent of golfers use the Vardon or overlapping grip. Players with smaller hands sometimes find the interlocking grip, with the little finger of the right hand interlocked with the index finger of the left hand, works best for them. Players with smaller should use a baseball type grip.

Tips On Indoor Putting Greens

On shots to the green line up to the center of the green. If the ball should fade or draw, you are still on the green. This is a good rule of thumb, however if your highly skilled then hit the shot fading or drawing that your comfortable with as part of your arsenal. Keep the ball in play and avoid the penalties and difficult lies, and positions that will cause you to score those nasty high numbers during your round.

I have a drill that may work for you when practicing your putting stroke called the Tap stroke. To learn this stroke pretend there is a tack stuck in the back of the ball and when you make your stroke have the putter head drive the tack further into the ball. This will encourage you to hit the ball with more authority which with this shorter stroke there will be less chance of the putter blade getting out of what is called square position. So start getting "Tacky" on the greens!

Don't grip the club too tightly. A tight grip inhibits a smooth swing and follow-though. Also, keep the grips on your clubs in good condition. Worn grips force you to hold the club too tightly. Replace the grips on your clubs as they get worn and smooth. When first learning the grip, keep a club around the house and practice gripping and regripping the club a few minutes each day. Remember to keep fingers secure and arms relaxed.

Standing on the tee or fairway, a player very often will not be able to see the green. Perhaps the fairway bends, or doglegs, to the left with the approach to the green and flag obscured by a line of trees. An inexperienced player would be well advised in this situation to take the safe option and aim to position the ball to just beyond the line of trees, leaving it in a position where the flag is visible. From there, it would be a straightforward approach shot.

Golf Putting Tips To Help You Make More Putts Consistently

By: Mary Chillders

Putting is one of the most difficult parts of the game of golf but if you can master it you can make a big difference at lowering your scores. Most players are actually naturally pretty effective at putting. If you see kids putt you will find that many tend to putt very well even without receiving any kind of lessons.

Most golfers struggle at putting when they start being overly concerned by putting mechanics. Developing a good putting stroke does matter so be sure to learn it well. Maybe take a putting lesson from a local golf pro. One useful thing to keep in mind about putting mechanics is to ensure that the golf ball is directly below your eyes.

You can check for this by holding a golf ball at eye level and then let it drop and see if it makes contact with the ball that is in the normal position of your putting stance. There a lot of different putters that come in many different sizes and shapes. The important thing is to pick the putter that you feel the most comfortable with.

Keep in mind that putting really is more an art than a science, sometimes you will feel like you did everything right and the ball still does not go in the hole. Remember that there are many variables you have no control over that could have caused a putt to miss so do not beat yourself up all the time.

Maintaining confidence levels is very important to help you become the best putter you can be. You need to think of yourself as a good putter and develop the skill of forgetting your missed putts. Instead focus on the putts you did make, this will help to boost your confidence level as a putter.

A large number of putters doubt their ability to determine the speed on longer putts. A lot of golfers think that this is some special gift that only a few players have. The truth is that we all have good feel and touch as long as you trust your natural ability and do not doubt it. Make sure that you hit your putts without consciously thinking about putting mechanics.

As you are about to make contact with your putt it is important to focus your mind on the target you have selected. You want to reduce your thoughts as much as possible and simply allow your mind and body to make the best stroke possible. Do not start doubting your read or your stroke as you are about to hit the putt and avoid any thoughts of past missed putts. Follow some of these strategies to help you develop into a solid putter.

To keep the clubface in the correct position throughout the swing, the left wrist must move in a flat position. What I mean by flat is in relation to the back of the left forearm, and the back of the left hand for right-handed players with the opposite for the left-handed players. To deviate from this position will roll the clubface out of position.

Hints On Hybrid Golf Clubs

The overall contour of the green can be assessed from 50-100 yards out. It's a fact that a ball will roll away from mountains and towards the ocean; so if there is a hill near the green the ball will roll away from it. If there is a lake near the green the ball will roll toward it.

Many swing faults occur from an improper setup. This can cause unnecessary adjustments during the swing. Taking care to position the ball, feet, hips and shoulders properly ensures building a good swing foundation. Testing has shown golfers with open stances show no more tendency to slice than golfers with closed stances. The open stance may give the golfers a little more opportunity to slice, because it allows a little more freedom in the downswing and follow-though. The square stance is used by most successful golfers. Beginners should start with a square stance. As you advance, you can experiment with the advantages of other stances. Avoid extreme stances. Experiment to find the stance that works best for you. Take care to set up consistently on all normal shots.

Discover How Golfers Use This Simple Golf Swing eBook And Audio Course As Their Secret Training Tool In Their Quest For Lower Scores.

A Golf Training Aid - Work and then Pay

By: Jeff Gustafson

"If you are interested in improving your game, I would highly recommend helping your head as much as you are helping your swing..."

The above was a quote from Rob Mangini, former assistant men's golf coach at Arizona State University in the book "The Mental Keys to Improving Your Golf". In other words, understand and know what works then concentrate on doing the work.

Unfortunately, when it comes to golf usually us regular, recreational golfers don't think beyond "gripping it and ripping it". We don't really want to put in the time. We just want to hit that sucker. Forget the golf training aid.

And yet in all my years of golfing, I haven't met a golfer yet that doesn't want to improve his or her golf game.

Getting better is not going to just happen, especially if you want to be consistent. It requires giving some serious attention to the four fundamentals of golf - mechanical, strategic, physical and mental. Now isn't that interesting. How many of the (4) do you as a golfer have a handle on? I would bet that most average golfers don't even think of (3) of the (4) and, to be honest, their mechanics probably aren't necessarily "all that".

Professional golfers know its work and then pay and that is the very foundation of what Strategy Golf is all about - focusing on doing "the work" the ultimate golf training aid.

Any sport requires practice. But golf requires so much more. It is you and you alone against the golf course, the elements, and your even your own demons. It is you that has to make the shot or sink the putt.

You can't focus on winning; you can't focus on the other players or you open the door to the fear of losing or missing that putt and letting bad shots or mistakes get you angry and that usually leads to something other than the winner's circle.

Putting your attention on your Strategy and not on your competition or the consequences of missing a putt is of ultimate importance in competition. All things being equal, if you play to your game-plan (golf training aid) and focus on what you are doing, and perform at your optimum then the outcome will take care of itself.

Think about what you can do to keep your focus on the YOUR task so that you play your game. Write out a strategy (golf training aid)...stick to a routine...and stay with the game-plan by reviewing and refocusing on each tee.

It is a fact that written goals have a way of coming true. By thinking through your approach and actually taking the time to put it all down on paper seems to cement the plan for good. So write out that strategy - your game-plan of how you intend to play each hole.

Golfers ignore this step in their preparation for a couple of reasons: One, it takes some time and many of us would just as rather "grip it and rip it!". But secondly, too many of us are so used to "resolutions" not coming true that we are not convinced writing anything down is going to work. There is another element to all of this: you have to truly want what you desire to come true. Most New Years resolutions are desires of the moment - weight you want to get off because you feel frumpy after the holiday meals; starting the exercise program that will give you that hard body but you really don't want to put in the time and effort and miss that piece of pie. Unless the desire is in your gut it isn't going to happen.

They key to success here is first wanting it bad enough, then putting in the time to be prepared, and finally writing out a game-plan to keep focused and on task (the perfect golf training aid). The question you have to ask yourself: "Do I want it bad enough to do the work to see the result?"

Tips About Golf Swing Aids

Golf Car

The Truth About Impact. Looking at the two pictures below, theres no doubting the differences between the proper address and impact positions. But while the correct impact position is obviously extremely important, its impossible to isolate this one moment of the swing through manipulation. Instead, you have to understand and apply the proper mechanics to create the correct look and feel at impact. Its no coincidence that a proper-looking impact position tends to create solid shots.

There are a number of possible reasons for hitting behind the ball. If you are not shifting your weight properly on the downswing, from the back leg to the front leg, your swing will bottom out before the club gets to the ball. Also, if you do not keep your head steady, you do not know where your swing will bottom out. Also, if you do not keep your leading arm reasonably straight, the arc of your swing will vary, so you can improve your consistency by focusing on these 3 areas.

Eyes And Arms
On the putting green, the eyes and the forearms should be parallel to the target line at address. This will encourage the putter to track on the proper path without manipulation during the stroke. If the eyes and/or the forearms are misaligned, it's impossible to make a putt without compensating during the stroke. Notice how poor my alignment is at far leftthis setup is common and bad.
